Have never had one that had NO hay, but have had to rehab several who have
been close to that--as in 5# or less of hay and 20+# of grain. The lucky
ones (those who don't suffer from a metabolic crisis) have shown severe
debilitation in as short a time as 1-2 months--others don't go downhill quite
so fast. I truly don't know how long it would have taken them to actually
die--my "scientific curiosity" does not extend that far, and my job is to try
to make them better, not to see how much longer they can endure their
particular problems. The unlucky ones who colic or have other crises as a
result of the diet can sometimes count their lives in hours. Is that
specific enough?
