I have to agree, Frank, that this IS one area where horses and humans seem to
differ. I'd also like to add, though, that when I think of "long" holds, I
don't necessarily think of an hour. Unless you have to spend a long time in
vet lines, most horses get adequate rest and refueling in 45 minutes. I
personally think there is more benefit from having more of the holds range
from 30 to 45 minutes, rather than having a couple of very short holds and
then an hour hold. Short holds have their place, but the timing of the
holds, IMO, is one of the arts of being a good ride manager.
