Sorry, Celeste - hunting dogs and some other breeds - like the Anatolian
we've got) will go hunt or go roaming no matter how well they're cared
for and loved.  We're not talking about running away from home
permanently, we're talking about going on excursions!  Exciting
excursions!

To use your example, it would be like saying that kids would be happy to
never leave your property because you love them and take care of them.
No way you can keep kids at home!  They want to have fun!
Entertainment!  Adventures!  But unlike kids, it's hard to teach a dog
to look both ways before crossing.  Or to ignore a bit of poisoned meat,
or the neighbor's baby goats.  Etc.  (Even kids aren't too good at
*always* doing what they *should*).  Lif
