I have a 99 Ford 4X4 2 ton (550 Heavy Duty) dully crew cab (the father of all
trucks) with the power stroke. I pull a 31ft featherlight living quarter and
the only time you know the trailer is behind you is when you are going up a
mountain and even then I still have plenty of power. I did install a
performance chip and also an exhaust break system. I highly recommend the
exhaust break system if you do a lot of hill trips. I had a 96 Dodge with
the cummings and at the time had a 24ft living quarter and the Dodge would
lose power on a slight incline. I also had the accelerator linkage to break
when the truck has less than 2000 miles. I was towing back from JDs ride in
SC and was on the WV turnpike. Luckily I was going up hill when the pedal
just went straight to the floor. I turned the engine off and was able to get
stopped. A trucker stopped and helped me fix the linkage. A bolt holding
the linkage to the manifold came of. I took it to the Dodge place when I got
back to Ohio and the service writer said they had been having problems with
this. Wish I had of known that before I decided to hook up and take off with
two horses. I used to be in the automobile business and have had the Chev
trucks, Dodges, and Fords. I've had no problems with the Fords. That's not
to say the others are bad, maybe I just got lemons.
