sports saddle experts

OK - all you sports saddle experts out there - perhaps you can help me.
I borrowed and tried a friend's sports saddle (endurance model, stirrups
set back) this weekend, and my horse loved it - he was free-moving,
rhythmic, and collected/extended with total joy. I loved the close
contact feeling and my seat was very comfortable - from the knees down,
however, was a completely different story. Even though I was wearing
chaps, the stirrup covers bumped and bruised my shins, and when I got
off, my knees ached (and they still do, a day later - I only rode 10
miles at about 7 mph). I have never had knee pain, and have run, cycled
and ridden all my life - anybody else experienced this? Will removing
the stirrup covers solve the bruised shins, or will those wide straps
just rub instead? Any idea on what would be causing the sore knees? I am
5'7" with medium-length legs for my height - would the Tex Lowe model be
better for me? Your wisdom is appreciated.
