fencing questions
Sarah,
My husband, daughters, and I fenced
our farm ourselves. We had never built anything before. We used 100-ft rolls of
non-climb horsefence. We put an H-brace every 99 feet. We dug post holes by
hand, some through solid rock.
When we fenced over the small
mountain on our property, rather than try to dig on the rocky slopes, we used
trees for posts. Between the posts elsewhere we have T-posts.
We paid for materials as we needed
them, fencing one area of the farm at a time. It took us one week to build our
first fence. We got much faster as we gained experience. We now have thirteen
acres fenced and cross-fenced, a fence around the goat barn we built from native
rocks and mud, and three of four sides of our 7-acre coastal field fenced. (The
remaining side has an old fence that we will eventually replace.)
It can all be done with
determination! If you are an endurance rider, you have that! If you have any
specific questions, email me privately for more details.
