Whoa up there!
There are sections of the country- the snow belt and the rot belt where straw
buildings earn their titles as "monuments to mold"- please be very careful
with this type of building as it works extremely well in hot dry locations
with little soil movement and NO FROST AT ALL- and is very poorly suited to
frost susceptible soils and any climatic condition that will cause the stucco
coating to crack and moisture to enter the straw. The first straw bale house
in NH was built in 1985 and fell down in 1991-please consult a local builder
or building association about this type of building BEFORE YOU CONSIDER IT.
