My vet would rub Apache's neck a little, then gently insert the needle.
Apache never moved. She was a very no-nonsense, yet gentle vet.
However, I may comment that Apache was extraordinarily stoic. He also liked
his vet. His farrier was female, too. Apache did not like men of any sort,
because he had been beaten by them. In deference to this, I always made
certain women worked with him.
On another, irrelevant note, Apache never liked the man who became my
husband, either. He'd keep telling me, "get rid of the man!"
Apache was right, and I did, but after too many years went by. :)
