California Trails

Hi Everyone

My husband and I are looking to relocate in the next couple of years to
California. We are looking at the Auburn area, along with Clearlake and
San Luis Obispo. 

I have a question to those who live near San Luis. Where do you ride?
Can you use the ranch lands? Do you have to get permission from the
ranch owners to use their land? Are there hidden trails? I know about
the wonderful trails in the national forest and of course Pismo Beach
(when there are few cars), but what about everyday training?
