Re: RC: Re: Looking for training/riding partner
"Just because someone likes to ride, it does not mean that they know how
to ride or have taken the
time to learn how to be good to the horse. Horsemanship is much more than
mere desire. "
Truer words were never spoken! I have a coworker who brought a friend
out to my place when she came to pick up some hay. I wanted to see the
coworker ride a horse I knew, so I put her up. I was pleasantly
surprised. Next came the friend. I was told ahead of time that they
would go out and run the horses (although thats not all they did). So, I
thought she should be at least a so-so rider. She couldn't even stand in
the stirrups at a halt! I am not kidding. She had absolutely no sense
of balance. I politely told my coworker at work the next day that this
girl needed riding lessons BAD. The friend is now taking english riding
lessons and wonders why she can't do xxx (fill in the blank) and couldn't
believe the age of the horse the instructor gave her to ride (ancient TB
that barely moves). She has no coordination and no feel for riding in
general. I was very glad that I was using a sidepull that day.
