Pentosan?

Hi there,
Does anyone know what exactly is Pentosan? I know it's a cheaper and stronger form of another type of injectable for joints - it replaces or encourages sinovial fluid production. Apparently very good for horses with arthritic and stiff joints and not swabbable.
