We have a concurrent doe season here this year - limits are similar to the buck season.  In our rural area, a lot of families depend on venison for their meat in the winter.    You better bet that if the population is high enough to allow doe hunting, that is the preferred animal.  The state is pretty good about population control & it is fairly easy to get doe tags.

Our property is posted because of the livestock.  By the third day of deer season, they seem to know that.  We had 4 deer in our field this morning, grazing safely.  OTOH - we have WAY too many around.  One less Bambi means one less KILLER deer to startle the new future-endurance horse and that much more pasture for the equines.  Believe it or not, deer DO make a dent in the pastures and hay fields here.  (Especially with the drought.)

I'm not anti-hunting in principle (although I do have a
lot of problems with it in practise).  The thing is, if
population control is really the aim, you need to kill
the does, not the bucks.  Kill the bucks and the ones
that are left just say, "Great, more for me!"
