EPM is Equine Protozoal Myelitis. Protozoan organism gets into the spinal fluid & cause degenerative neuropathy. Horse may be lame & hard to diagnosis the source, depressed, may shown signs similar to rabies like head pressing, facial paralysis, flaccid muscle or loss of muscle tone.
Lyme's disease is carried by ticks - a spirochete that can be treated with antibiotics if recognized. Can result in heart valve damage.
