  Don't forget your friendly farrier when it comes to this also.Alot of older 
horses stand fine in cross ties or tired but some of the youngsters it too 
much for them to handle.This is first hand experience.About a year ago I was 
shoeing a young cow horse that was tied to a stall front.This is not uncommon 
for him to stay tied for long periods of time.Any way when I was nailing on 
the right front he drew back felt the pressure and BAMM! The next thing I 
knew I was hit with a flying steel stall front and falling to the ground as 
the horse started backing toward me with the stall front.If not for a friend 
who was able to drag me out of the way by my hair and one ear.I would have 
been a goner.So yes I agree when your working with a horse its better for 
them not to be tied you may not get a second chance to figure it out. Just my 
thoughts RD
