I was the one who originally was talking about the collars, I think.  I love
them.  To fit correctly, they should be able to slide around a little so that if
they slide down they don't cause discomfort, but not so loose that they can
slide over the head, which would also prevent the horse from getting a hoof in
them.  If you can't picture that, let me know, and I'll go measure Akela's neck
and then the collar to let you know how much slack I have in it.  The one I use
was made specifically for this purpose by a friend of mine.  They are made so
there's not a long tail for the horse to step on.
