I agree 100%. When I was 15 years old, one a woman was over trying out one
of our TB geldings. She tied him (up after riding him some stupid tight
knot) then got between he and the fence. When he stepped on her foot she
caused him to panic, and he wound up pulling the whole fence down, racing
around the paddock dragging 2X4's. He had some damage to his legs, and
although he healed, he really was never the same again. Now I can do
everything with and for my horses without tying them. When I do need to tie,
its an easy slip knot. This is a good lesson for everybody - get used to
cleaning & tacking your horse without tying. Just hold his lead rope in one
hand and work with the other.
