We have a year old Saddlebred, big show ring type. At 3 years old when we started to ride him he was a sweetheart. I tried to ride him this year and he was a brat. Since endurance seasons was starting he got put out to pasture as a winter project. When my son started to ride him this fall he showed signs of lameness in his left hind foot and did not want to bend his neck left. I also noticed his teeth needed floating. I figured teeth first then we would tackle the other problems. When my vet came out and felt his teeth she said ‘I bet he looks lame going to his left’. After my jaw came off the ground I asked her how did you know since I had never discussed his lameness problem with her making an appointment with the secretary for teeth floating. She told me that this is not unusual since the jaw bone connects to the neck bone and the neck bone connect to the back bone the back bone connect (you can fill in the rest of the song). The problem is more pronounced on horses with high head carriage but can effect all types of horses. The teeth were worst on the left hence more lameness on this side. Well 4 days have pasted and he is bending his neck better. I am taking him to a friend’s area on Saturday so am looking forward to seeing how he will do. Always something to learn…. Peggy Brush....51 and still a rookie. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
