Re: RC: Re: Re: Pulling Back
I've only owned my horse for 4 years now, but he now ties.
When I bought him, they informed that he would break
anything he was tied to....great. So I went ahead and
bought him anyway. I guess part of me is laughing, because
I would love for his previous owners to see him now. Today,
we were out trailriding...afterwards, he was tied to the
trailer and woman come over and proceeded to tell me how
much she loved my horse and how calm he was at the trailer.
2 years ago, he wouldn't have been tied to the trailer,
because he would've hurt himself.
The method I used and it worked for me was not to tie him.
I would loop his lead over and through anything, but he was
never tied. If he pulled back, he met no resistance. Hence
his fear of tying went away. Now, he is tied and sometimes
he isn't, but even if he is tied and pulls, he always comes
back to the original spot. If he isn't tied, he comes loose
and then looks at me...what happened????
Time and patience are the biggest things you can ever give a
horse and teach them that the bad things they learned in
someone's elses care isn't going to happen as long as you
are around. It is amazing how fast they catch on to that
one.
