Some people Like us) feel that horses should never be left unattended
(pasture or stall) with a halter on. Horses have a propensity for
rubbing and getting halters caught on things. Ask your vets how many
horses they have had to treat or put down because of things (like feet)
getting caught in a halter.
If you must leave a horse with a halter on, use one with breakaway
connections in at least two places so they can break free if they get
hung up on something.
