Pam, this is very true. The sad part is that those incidents in their pasts
are generally from people ignoring the very same safety rules that have been
discussed here--either tying to things that will break and can be dragged or
tying with equipment that will break. We had a mare at the ranch when I was
a kid that was one of these--she had been beaten senseless by a corral pole
that had come off of a fence when she had set back as a young horse before we
owned her. Since all we did was use her as a ranch horse, we were able to
get by with never tying her up. Sadly, that is not an option for many
horses--hence a horse that has been abused in this way may be limited in what
homes are available to it.
