Re: RC: Those new-fangled halters w/no hardware
Heidi: "If you've ever seen a horse set back, break a halter, fall over
and fracture his poll, and then die..."
We had one set back, slip out of the halter, fall over backwards & get
stuck upside down (because of the western saddle on him) in a woodpile.
Fortunately he wasn't hurt, and he quieted down immediately when asked,
allowing Paul to get close enough to him to release the cinch, at which
the horse leaped to his feet & took off.
This was because the woman who was grooming him (in a wash rack, double
tied) was so afraid of horses she infected this horse, a seasoned
schooling horse with her fear. It was quite amazing, and we were so
lucky he wasn't harmed.
By the way, he was in a nylon halter, properly fitting (we thought), not
hard tied either. He just set back so hard & so fast the halter came
off! Lif
