Re: Cribbing/windsucking
I have had horses for over 40 years and believed once a wind sucker
always a wind sucker until just recently. We acquired a ex race horse
for my husband that had ligament desmotomy for a bowed tendon and
needed a good home. This horse was 8 when we got him and had been
standing around for about two years. He wind sucked constantly so, I
bought him a miracle collar hoping it would help get weigh on him if I
could cut down on the wind sucking. For at least a year the wind
sucking continued when his collar was left off and his appetite was only
fair. I put him on beet pulp and my husband started him trail riding..
I don't know when the wind sucking stopped, but about 8 months ago his
miracle collar was left off for a few days and I noticed he wasn't
sucking wind. Since that time he has not started again. I wondered if
it was the beet pulp (which he loves) the life style change or whether
it was possible that he had ulcers that might have caused the problem.
He is now a good eater and his weight has improved. Has anyone else had
an experience like this? Cindy
