Wendy, I was on one of those faceless road crews out there on the course,
crewing for you and the rest of the squad. Once you left the coastal area
(where the humidity WAS 50% or better) and got out into the desert, the
humidity was very low. I got the 2% figure from various officials at the vet
check. I'd say that it would have to have been in single digits--I've spent
some time down in your neck of the woods (29 Palms) in the summer when it was
120 with single digit humidity, and the sweat dries right on you so that
you're hardly ever wet. You may bake, but you don't boil. That's how I felt
in Dubai on race day, out in the sun running after horses with bullets of
water, lugging stuff in and out of the rigs, etc. I was damp and clammy back
in town--positively sweltered. But not at all out on the racecourse. And I
sweat like the proverbial pig, so I tend to notice... Sorry if I didn't
specify that I was referring to out on course. :-)
