Yep, that is very true....Tony was/is fussy on 50s but after about 65
miles he ate like a pig during the 100 and his gut sounds went from B-/C
(normal at a ride for him) to a good solid A. As a matter of fact, 2
vets told me if you have a good horse with iffy gut sounds on a 50 then
just move up to 100s (how's that for a criteria for moving up a
distance? <g>) cuz 1) the horses get some religion on the 100 and
starting eating and 2) the extra time allows their guts to go back to
functioning normally instead of being in flight mode like Tony's were.
Samm tells me Weagle will eat anything in sight so that will be a nice
change from begging Tony to eat.
I never really thought much about a horse's appetite till I started this
sport - ya start obsessing about the oddest things when you do endurance :)
