That's ideal where you have enough trail to work with. Your plan about
splitting LD's off works well, too. The ride where we start our LD riders
first is a 50-mile loop with a cut-off for the LD riders. They split from
the main loop 4 miles out, and go straight to what is the 3rd vet check for
the 100's and 50's. We've worked our start times out so that they reach that
check after the 100's have cleared, and before the 50's get there. We rarely
have any overlap until an occasional very fast LD catches the tail-end 100 at
what is the 50-mile point on the 100.
Part of being a good ride manager is factoring in ALL the possibilities of
fast and slow riders and coming up with solutions to avoid conflicts.
