I think part of separating the start times is so that all the horses don't
hit the VC at the same time and overwhelm the vets. However, I really
don't like it when the LDs start right behind the 50s -- I've been swarmed
like Jean wrote about, and it's really unpleasant, and it makes it harder
to do the late start slow 50 you have planned. The last ride I did, the
25s started an hour and a half after the 50s, which seemed (to me) to work
really well -- I did the 25 that day, and hardly saw a 50-miler all day.
We were well spaced out and the VCs were smooth (of course it was a really
small ride too, but still).
Why do the LDers need to all be done by noon anyway? Takes a lot of the
fun out of the ride when you're all through and hanging out in camp
watching the others keep going out and having fun. :)
