measuring horses
My gelding Akela is 16, and for years I've thought he was 15 hands. He
measured that with an old tape we measured him with... oh, maybe 10
years ago. But the tape must have been inaccurate, because now a friend
has a stick and lo and behold, he's 14.3. Doesn't make any difference
to me, of course -- he's my baby -- but was interesting. He looks
15.0; his sire was 15.1 and looked 16.0. Lanky and leggy so they give
the appearance of being taller than they actually are.
