Re: wedge pads
RD did do a beautiful job explaining the use of wedge pads. Thank you,
RD!!! We don't feel they are a long term solution but can be helpful while
you are trying to encourage heel growth. We used wedge pads for several
shoeings on my gelding who doesn't like to grow heel and it did encourage
heel growth. Eventually, we were able to stop using the pads and combining
some Natural Balance principles and modifying our St. Croix Eventers in a
manner similar to what RD described, he is finally getting decent heel and
good angles.
BTW, did ridecamp hear that Burney Chapman, the great farrier who pioneered
a lot of founder research/therapy died this last week? We have used a lot
of his ideas to help horses with founder in our area. It's a shame!
