Dyanne,
My gelding Akela is always double-tied at night when we camp. He
has been known to get out of a single tie, and I know him too well (he
respects the hot wire but also knows it only zaps for a minute and has a
high pain tolerance!). I have also seen too many corrals wrecked to
risk that! All the horses from our barn are taught to tie long enough
they can lie down. It helps to have one that doesn't freak out if
they do manage to get a foot over, of course, but then Akela has always
assumed that fixing that was my job. (Thank God!)
