With each passing year I am glad for the little 14.2 (on a tall day) flaxen
chestnut daughter of my favorite mare our our treasured Sal. Why? Not as far
to climb on or fall off! What can she do? Anything. Everything - quick as a
cat, clean over fences, 18" overtrack at the trot - and nearly ready to
really ride! Do I wish she was taller? Not on your life!

[Karen Sullivan] Hey, got to agree! Being almost 6 ft. high, I enviously eye those taller horses......my biggest horse is slightly over 15.1.

Our old tried and true Arab Ashley is barely 14.1, but very stocky.
She can do anything.

My son's Morab is about the same size, and I have been riding her weekly to "keep her in line". Hey, she's great, fun to ride, smooth and very surefooted! Darn easy to get on, and if I drop something, I can lean down and pick it up!

But, here is my question related to endurance. Do you folks, and the vets think breeding these huge Arabs, that stand well over the breed standard; are making any improvement to the breed, or compromising it?
I have always thought and observed that the smaller horses seem to stay sounder, and recover quicker. What is the advantage to a true 16h Arab?

Karen (with my feet hanging on whomever I ride)
