we've fed unprocessed rice bran for several years to help keep weight on
horses being worked, up to 2 lbs a day at times. we never had a problem
with feet getting brittle.

we first started feeding rice bran on the recommendation of vets from
Kentucky Equine Research center when my husbands mare first started tying up.
one thing about rice bran is that it is high in phosphorus and low in
calcium so depending on how much you are feeding the diet needs to be
balanced.
