Unfortunately, I think you are right on....I have watched plenty FEI "BC"
judging.  It is done the morning after a ride and, yes, the horse that looks
the freshest seems to get BC.

I was in Qatar in 1997 for the World Cup...Steve Rojek had leased a french
horse..most definitely NOT an arab.  But that horse finished 6th and looked
great (try 100KM of deep sand).  The next morning I could hardly believe it,
but his legs hadn't a hint of heat or swelling and were stone cold.

BC went to a little flashy grey arab who, of course, had more bounce in his
trot.

In Dubai, my favorite was hardly looked at and the SAME little bouncy grey
arab won BC.
