Re: RC: bowed tendon
Hi Barbara
Just thought I'd give you my experience with a horse that we bought a
few years ago at the age of 11. He had been used very hard and had a
bowed tendon which had happened when he was 9. My husband's horse was
on lay off for a year to make sure a sesamoid crack (from hitting it on
a log we think) healed as well as it could. This 11 year old was going
to just get a good home and give my husband something to ride for the
year. We then expected him to become a pasture ornament. Since that
time, he has completed the Tevis, all 5 days of the Outlaw Trail and
easily finished a couple more 100's including the pre ride for the Pan
Ams last year. So much for retirement and old bowed tendons. He's also
run away with me a few times, once at the 85 mile mark, but that's
another story entirely.
I don't think it was a REALLY bad bow, but certainly bad enought that it
is still obvious.
Take this for what's it's worth. All horses are different and all
injuries are also. Good luck.
