Determining horse's weight

Hey all.

Does anyone know of a more accurate way to estimate a horse's weight
other than those weight tapes? The tape I have shows weight ranges that
overlap and for the life of me, I can only figure out my horse's wieght
plus or minus 50 pounds. Not very accurate.

Horse and Rider (I think) published a formula in response to a reader's
question more than a year ago. Anyone remember seeing this? The formula
took into account the horse's length as well as the heart girth
dimension.

Any help is appreciated.
