Go to Medline at http://www.healthgate.com/medline/adv-medline.shtml to search for several research studies done on this subject. The abstracts are available on line & you can order the articles themselves for a fee if there is no library nearby that carries these journals. (This is a major site for vet/medical references, but it is usually very technical and written at a high level.)
Search on "dorsal displacement" and palate. Consider widening your time period for the search - maybe 1990 forward.
Good luck.

Help! My 6 year old Arab mare has been diagnosed with Intermittent Dorsal Displacement of the Soft Palate. I have been using a figure 8 noseband to hold her tongue down. This worked for a while but now she is displacing her tongue no matter how tight I get the noseband. My next option, as far as I know, is surgery. Does anyone have any suggestions? Has anyone had the surgery performed on a horse? Please respond to mdnevada@tele-net.net
