Maggie, if you are making lists of stuff to watch out for you might suggest
not using black walnut shavings or sawdust for bedding.  Seems this can have
ugly effects on horses feet.  Have not heard if english walnut is bad or
not.   You may know about this as I'm sure you have lots more of both than
we do out here.
