Re: 25's v 50s
Just to throw a glitch in there, our stallion will be starting out on 25
LDs next year... he won't be 5 until June and they won't be fast 25s....6
hours to complete 25 miles of endurance is better than 4 and 1/2 for 25 CTR
and I feel we can take better care of him. Besides, we want to get him
used to being crewed and drinking or eating just about anywhere. I just
prefer endurance to CTR if given a choice. We may move him up to a 35 or
40 mile CTR mid summer (or a 25 LD plus a 25 CTR same weekend) to prepare
him for longer distances but our plan at this point is to try one or two
50s late in the season next year to see how he does. No flaming, please.
This is our "tentative" plan, pending the multitude of things that can
happen to the "best laid plans". It is all groundwork for being a future
100 miler horse someday and I feel we need to bring him up
slowly...besides, if I am doing 50s on my gelding and also have to ride
another day of 25 miles...I would prefer it be endurance (LD) anyway. I am
delighted to just make it through 50 miles now. Don't know if I can handle
a second day!! All groundwork for building ME up to be a one time 100
miler!! :)
