Re: Road riding question

Since my young horse is uncomfortable around speeding, loud vehicles, I am
careful about what time I ride in our neighborhood alone. I pick the day
time hours when most folks are at school or work and then I still ride on
the safest (for my horse and me) side of the road, I listen and watch
carefully for any approaching cars, and will ride as far off the road as I
can, when the vehicle is going too fast or is too loud.

BUT, I also have two other tricks :) One is that I often ride with my
friend Cindy, whose horse is more experienced and Cindy always rides between
me and the traffic so that Khal is able to feel safer and also see that
Cindy's horse is not bothered by the traffic. Other times I ride with my
husband (who will be running or biking) and when some speeding or loud
vehicles are coming I politely ask him to get into the middle of the road to
slow them down. He does, and they slow down :) Naturally he does it when
they are far away and he certainly won't stay in their path if they are
going to run over him. But he does help Khal and me.........I think often
drivers are not really paying attention to anything on the side of the road
and don't realize how fast they are going.
