Re: training question/tailing
Boy can some of us relate to your story. Me especially. I was on the
Halloween Horror ride with my appy mare a few years back. There was a
steepish , longish climb coming up so I hopped off and grabbed her tail and
the reins in my left hand and started a nice walk up the hill. A rider
trotted by us . Well, my mare Annee decided that we were going way too
slow. She promptly broke into a nice long trot to catch up with the horse
that had just passed her. I grabbed her tail with both hands and hung on
for dear life. The snap on my reins had gotten tangled in her tail and I
couldnt get her to slow down let alone stop. Well we finally caught up
with the other rider.... and blew right on past her. By the time we
reached the top of the climb I had gotten her reins out of her tail hairs
and hauled her to a stop. The rider caught me about a minute later and
commented on how she admired my physical condition. She just couldnt
believe how I had run up that section of trail. I just smiled and gasped
thanks. I wondered how she could have missed my right lung laying on the
trail and my brains leaking from my ears and nose. Must of been a
newbie!!!:)))))) I could hardley get back into the saddle. No more
tailing for me. My critters get paid to haul my butt up the trail. I will
lead down no problem. But I
DON'T DO UP HILLS. gesa n clovis
