girthing problems
I need some advice.
After using the same rigging for 5 years, it has started to irritate
Kaboot. Speed seems to be a factor. We've had no problem on 100's but
getting some rubs and "scurfing" on a couple of 50's. I ride with it
pretty snug.
My saddle is a very early model Ortho-Flex Express. The rigging is a 2"
billet sewn to the flap. The girth is a 2 prong neoprene. I really like
it that's why I never went to the English Billets when they switched over
(because they couldn't get the 2" buckel in stainless).
The girth doesn't seem to be particularly close to his elbow, but it
doesn't lay very flat and I think his elbow was coming in contact with it
in the past but after becoming more concious of keeping it farther back
that was O.K. Now the tenderness under the girth.
I'm considering 3 options. I can have my billet sewn on farther back (or
will that just make the saddle work forward?), switch to English billets
and try a mohair girth, or I just noticed a new "Center-Fire Rigging
Cinch" in the Sportack catalog.
I like the 2" billets, but it keeps me from ever being able to switch to
mohair if necessary. Not crazy about English rigging, simply because
I've seen those billets break the most, but would have greatest
availability of girths. The Sportack version has 1.5" buckles and the
billets are biothane. Their girth is mohair. or neoprene.
Any advice?
