Killer Bees
On some nature program I was watching they did a segment on
killer bees. The key thing seems to be, the moment you see
*some* bees beginning to swarm you, RUN LIKE HELL.
It's like the hive committs to a full attack in phases. In phase 1,
you're getting close to the hive but only a few scouts are mad at
you and stinging. In phase 2, you are approaching the hive's
close zone and something like a few dozens of bees have committed
themselves to attack you. But if you get to phase 3, then you
are inside the hive's critical zone and darned near the whole hive
is committed to doing you in, and the distance they have to pursue
you doesn't seem to be much of an object.
So, if you see more than one or two bees taking an interest in you,
don't think. Get the hell out of there.
