Liz, you raise a really good point and something that you can observe at any
endurance race (even middle/back of the pack where I usually am). I WANT to
tell the vet about what's going on with my horse, if he's not eating/drinking
like usual, and the rest of the parameters. THEN have the vet look the horse
over and make a decision -- being pulled from a ride is definitely not the
worst option available. I don't want to play games with the vets. I am
surprised at the riders who will "fib" (play games) to the Vet about their
horse's status -- "Oh, yeah, he's drinking really well" -- Read hasn't had
anything since camp. "Don't you remember? You vetted him in with a funny
way of going?" -- read "Grade 2 Lame". "Oh, he's not tired, he always does
this" -- Read exhausted horse on the verge of colic. My asbestos suit is
fresh from the cleaners, so ..... bring it on...... I'm prepared.
Sylvia
(Not to say that everybody fibs, but some do)
