Oh Michelle! what kind of question is that? Horses are like potato chips,
you can't have just one (at least that's what I tell my husband). Seriously,
I'm in a similar situation as you. I have a seasoned endurance horse, a 5
year old wannabe, and a yearling (never mind that 23 year old over there
munching his hay). This season I was very grateful to have my 5 year old in
the "wings" when Harca tore a tendon (ok, ok, the 5 year old KICKED the
tendon). Anyway, its nice to have a back-up horse. I plan on ponying on
alternate days when everybody is back up to speed. The yearling doesn't take
much, just some grooming and ground manners stuff at this point. Next year
I'll start lounging and the rest. He already trailers, clips, etc. Just
don't want to lounge a yearling. Soooo, long answer to a short question, how
many horses is too many? You need a back up to your back up in case the back
up has a problem. How many is that? :)
