Last year I bought a 4 year old mule who was up to date on shots, coggins test, etc. This year when I called the vet to bring my mule up to date I got a new vet. We got into a discussion about wolf teeth. She looked in my mules mouth and said he has wolf teeth and she showed them to me. I asked her what she recommended and she said she could "easily take them out" if I wanted her to. I had heard about bitting problems associated with wolf teeth and thought if this is no big deal she should go ahead and remove them. Well, they didn't come out "easy." She dug and dug and broke one off and then the other and then pretended that the mule swallowed the second one. I really love my mule and in retrospect wish I had left well enough alone. Two days later, I read an article in Equis about "not pulling wolf teeth which are tight." They recommed ignoring them or filing them down. My questions to our ridecamp vets: I know that what's done is done, but I worried that I may have caused more harm than good. Should I be concerned about broken roots, remaining pieces of teeth, etc. or, will they just heal over and we'll live happily ever after? Damm, I reread this note and it sound like something from Dear Abby instead of a good question. Thanks for your input.
