Re: Riding in the dark?

I agree that the horse's ability to see in the dark is just phenomenal.  I
have been on twisty mountain trails trotting fast, fast in dark so profound
I never knew which way the trail would twist next.  Sun never missed a step.
But, I do think horses have other issues at night.  A lot of other animals,
including predators, are up and about at night.  Also, often there are far
fewer other horses out.  My experience is that the best thing for a woman
and her horse is to try to ride with others if possible.  If not, well,
carefully assess the risk and then, listen to your horse about what's out
there.  (And realize, sometimes they LIE--especially if they would rather be
curled up in front of a good flake of hay back at the barn).
