I think it would be GREAT to honor the horses who make it to 5000 and up
miles.  After all, endurance riding is a team sport and the horse is part of
the team.  Also, if 100 miles is the signature distance for one day,
certainly career miles has to count for a lot in showing horses who are
really there for the long haul.
