The horse that hit Jim Oury

I like Rhonda's theory that Mr. Oury may have been in the horse's blind
spot.

Or here's another.  Maybe it happened the same way the collision between
Tobasco Cat and D. Wayne Lucas' son was supposed to have happened.
Tobasco Cat got loose.   The son was trying to catch him.  Something
spooked Tobasco Cat and he headed for the son.  Both the son and the
horse jumped to avoid each other at the last minute...but both jumped
in the same direction.
