Re: spooky stuff
Hi Dyane - Horse safe, horse sized teeter-totter is something I saw at a
training facility of the Parelli kind. I put it that way because they
had all sorts of interesting and strange training devices there (Deb
Cooper's place in Aptos CA, for those who know her). The teeter-totter,
aka see-saw, was a few feet wide, and maybe 8 or 10 ft. long. It wasn't
high off the ground, just a foot or so. The point was to get the horse
to walk forward just far enough that it's center of balance was over the
(um - am I correct here...) fulcrum. The balance point. And if you had
the horse perfectly positioned, you could ask for a lean backwards and a
lean forwards and get the see-saw to see-saw. I have a sneaky feeling
maybe the whole thing was more for teaching people than horses, however
I can see that a horse that could be on the thing would be OK with
trailers, ramps, etc. Certainly you had to have a horse that wouldn't
freak out about the "ground" moving underneath its feet, one that would
stop when you asked, and move its weight without moving its feet. All
good stuff.
There were other strange torture devices there. Deb had (has) a
devilish glint in her eye sometimes when she introduces new people to
her facility. Lif
