I graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a degree in Animal Science. I spent 5
years working with and training the horses there. In fact another girl and
myself started an endurance program there by taking 2 of the horses that
didn't fit into the show ring and trained them for endurance. We competed
for 4 years in NATRC and AERC. I can tell you that Cal Poly takes the best
care of their horses. If anyone wants to see a breeding operation that is
1st class, you should visit Cal Poly.

It was my understanding that these horses were donated back to Cal Poly
because the owner couldn't take care of them any longer. Cal Poly will
always look at taking horses back if it would enhance their breeding
program. I also heard that Cal Poly didn't know at the time the condition
that these horses were in and that by sending some of them to the slaughter
house was probably a very difficult but a neccessary management decision.

If your rescue group would like to work with Cal Poly in the future, I would
suggest that instead of bad mouthing them, you try to work with them. If
they are in this sitituation in the future maybe you could arrange for them
to contact your organization first before seeking other means of disposal.
