Trails Petition

Well folks It is hard to understand but I guess that most persons just DO NOT  care about trails when it comes to endurance riding. Guess most every one is content to ride on pavement or roads in the future.

I sent out the trails petition on January 13, 1999 and to date there are only 78 persons on line that care enough to answer back! That does not make a very impressive petition to present to the BoD at the Convention.

I find it hard to believe that my fellow riders out there are so indifferent as to neglect the opportunity to show their concern to our Board! Now, it is interesting that the number of Board members that have not signed on is in the majority. Guess they are telling me they are not concerned about trails either.

I am still going out tilting at windmills by asking again, Please let's show the BoD that we want the AERC to take a very firm position on trails by signing and returning the following proposal.

Considering the annual, devastating loss of trails for endurance riding each year, I has been proposed that the AERC take an active position in the Trails Community. To that end I have put together the following petition to be presented to the AERC Board of Directors at the Annual Convention and Meeting at the end of February.

If you are concerned about our trails it would be appreciated if you would read and sign the petition. Then copy and send it back to me by E-mail. The results will be presented to the Bob The week prior to the Board Meeting with the anticipation that it will be acted upon.

REMEMBER NUMBERS COUNT,  AND WHILE HUNDREDS ARE GOOD THOUSANDS ARE BETTER.

Thank you very much for your interest in this.

                                                PETITION

                            TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
                AMERICAN ENDURANCE RIDE CONFERENCE

The undersigned members of the American Endurance Ride Conference here-by petition the Board of Directors to undertake very serious consideration of the state of trails in the United States and Canada. Every day trails and access to trails is being denied and/or lost. The causes for this are varied and range from unsubstantiated misguided pseudo-science, unauthorized closing of trails by Agencies and by the enactment of local, state and federal mandates.

The undersigned members of the American Endurance Ride Conference here-by petition the Board of Directors to direct the Executive Director of the AERC to place emphasis of trail matters within the Endurance News, to seek out National and Regional trail problem areas and to highlight and explore them to the benefit of the general membership.

The undersigned members of the American Endurance Ride Conference here-by petition the Board of Directors to make the Trails Committee of foremost importance and to work directly with this Committee to expand the position of the AERC with in the National Trails Community.

The undersigned members of the American Endurance Ride Conference here-by petition the Board of Directors to provide funds, by what ever means necessary, to establish a presence on the National and Regional Trails scene.

Since trails are essential to the conduct of endurance rides, and trails are being lost at an alarming rate each year, the undersigned do not believe these requests of the Board of Directors are unreasonable, unnecessary or in any way in conflict with the AERC Articles of Incorporation, By-laws or Rules and Regulations.

Please be advised that this petition was done by electronic means and was not available to all AERC members. A full petition of all members could show a difference.
